Dairy Sheep in the USA

Did you know that the Dairy Sheep is from Europe where they milk thousands of sheep instead of cows.The East Friesian Dairy Sheep has been rebred here in the states to try and get a sheep to handle the climates that are in the different areas of the USA.The dairy sheep has been bred for milk only not for wool as alot of people think.The wool is coarse and short so it is for stuffing items.We use it as a weed control and stuff cracks with it for insulation use other wise it is burned yearly.The Dairy Sheep is a hardy Sheep but requires more nutrients and better feed inorder for them to produce milk.They are a miniature cow of sorts.All items used for them is in 3/4 amounts used on Dairy cows.They need clean pasture, lots of water ( to help make milk) and shelter.Most are friendly once you are around them alot and when they learn you are feeding person and they see you they BAAA at you.These Dairy Sheep are milked 2x a day like cows but the milk has more vitamins and minerals than any other milk used and it is frozen when not used.It will not seperate like other milk when thawed.It also has more solids so it makes more cheese for the amount of milk used.It is high in butter fat so it is very, very rich as fresh milk will attest.The milk is similar to cows milk taste as they eat grass,hay and grain like cows so the milk is always clean,pure and great tasting.We have a website with pictures and product. www.stoneyacres.biz

We ahve been milking Sheep for over 13 years and produce Naturally Aged farmstead Cheese,Smudge,Soaps and Lotions with the Milk on our Missouri farm.
